THE SEWING CIRCLE
A creative women’s retreat in Mallorca
Up on the hills of Andratx, Mallorca, where the mountains meet the Mediterranean sea, there is an island oasis called Gaia Finca. I visited this dream location few weeks ago, when Trudi, its charming owner, and founder of Gaia Natural Mallorca, invited me to her home and head quarter (where she makes environmentally friendly soaps, moisturisers, gels, washes and scrubs using sustainably and biologically grown flowers, herbs, Olive and Sweet Almond oils that are native to Mallorca), to talk possible collaborations.
As soon as I saw the place and felt its energy, I knew that we would dream up and design something special. The quiet, welcoming and cozy space, the stunning views, the birds chirping, the chimney...it was the perfect place for our Sewing circle. A day of connection, sisterhood, pattern making and sewing.
I arrived at sunset the day before the retreat, to set up for the special day, and be there early in the morning to welcome our lovely participants. We shared a homemade dinner and a glass of wine, went to bed early.
We started our day welcoming our creative ladies with coffees and teas by the fireplace, prepared by Trudi, getting to know each other and talking about the day ahead.
I shared the rituals that I like to use to start a creative project and visualize it, and together we did a short meditation about how to listen to our imagination and try new skills.
It was now time to create with our hands. We started with our pattern making class, with practical steps to take our own measurements, learn how to customize a pattern (we made a wrap skirt) and how to transfer our ideas onto paper, to create our own dream garments.
We enjoyed a nourishing lunch in the Sun, prepared for us by Max Campbell, and we were spoiled with the most beautiful service, table setting and views of the hills behind Andratx. We talked about life, plans and dreams.
After lunch, we cut our wrap skirts, and started sewing. Time flies fast when you’re having a good time so we made the most of the time to finish our project and had coffee, tea and cake to keep the creativity going.
I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our first Sewing circle retreat.
It was a truly magical day that I'll keep in my heart, and I’d love to host more, so if you’d like to stay updated about our upcoming circles and maybe join the next one, make sure to sign up to our newsletter here.
You are also very welcome to email me at hello@sunvibescollective.com and ask me all your questions about our classes and retreats and I'll get back to you soon.
